The Calgary Polo Club - Canadian Open 40th Anniversary
The Canadian Open celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year and we are proud to continue to host this high-goal event to the public.
Established in 1890, the Calgary Polo Club has a long history in Alberta western culture, with a passion for the game, a love of horses and a deep respect for sportsmanship. The Canadian Open bronze, glass and wood trophy was created by Jan and Rich Roenisch.

Team Highwood - Canadian Open 2018

Marcelo Abbiati, Captain of the Highwood Polo team is a former six goal player from Argentina who now calls Calgary home. Abbiati has represented Canada in many international tournaments.

Ron Mathison, Sponsor of Highwood Polo started playing in Calgary and has competed in many international tournaments with his Highwood team of through his association with Chateau d'Esclans.

Martin Donovan is a professional five goal polo player. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Donovan grew up riding horses on his family's ranch located in General Belgrano, two hours away from the city. Donovan is always happy to spend his summers playing polo in Calgary.

Marcos Liambias is a professional four goal polo player born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Fernando (Fati) Reynol is a five goal player from Rio Cuarto-Cordoba and the Canadian Opens was his first tournament in Canada.

Pedro Luis Orellana is three goal player from Trenque Lauquen, Argentina. Orellana is a farmer and loves to fish when he is not playing polo.

Luis Saracco was born in Carlos Tejedor, Argentina and lives there with his wife Noelia, and children, Micaela, Santino and Felipe. Saracco has played polo since he was 16, and professionally since 2002. Saracco graduated from veterinary school in 2000.
